Finland had the research on the effects of sleep deprivation on weight gain. Studies involving 7002 respondents, yielded surprising results. Respondents that often have difficulty sleeping, are prone to weight gain.

When you do not have enough time to sleep, your body produces the hormone ghrelin. This hormone will provide information to the brain through your digestive organs, that your body needs food. Then you will feel hungry. The more you sleep less, then the amount of the hormone ghrelin is produced by the body will more and more. And consequently you will get to feel hungry. In a long process, people who sleep less than 7 hours per night, can experience weight gain up to 5 pounds.

Notice when you are together with people who sleep at midnight. Or even your own. They usually have a poor habit, which is snacking. Unwittingly, the hormone ghrelin makes you snack more than portions of food you should eat. This of course will disturb your healthy weight loss program. Instead, your weight will go up quickly.

At other times, a study has also been conducted by the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions 2011. This research studied the appetite of the respondents are only allowed to sleep for 4 hours overnight. The next day found that female respondents consume 329 calories more, than when they are sleeping enough. In men, the increase in calories consumed, at 263. As mentioned above, respondents have a tendency to snack and eat foods with high carbohydrates when they are awake.

The body's ability to burn calories will decrease, due to lack of sleep. Another study also conducted at the University of Lubeck, Germany. The research team get the result that the number of respondents experiencing lowering Traffic burn calories in the body. After being asked to sleep 12 hours at night, then did not sleep at all the next night. In a phase of not sleeping, they have an abundant buffet, and was allowed to eat freely.

American Journal of Clinical Nutrition states a result, that the process of burning calories in the body will be disrupted due to lack of rest. From respondents involved, it is known that the energy produced by the their body decrease to 20% after they were not allowed to sleep, rather than after they sleep for 12 hours straight.

So, to make a successful of your healthy weight loss program, you should still have enough hours of sleep, balanced with a good diet and exercise.
